A tire of a German semi-trailer caught fire on Tuesday while driving in the Oswaldibergtunnel on the Tauernautobahn!
“The driver of the semi-trailer’s companion vehicle noticed the fire and informed the 41-year-old driver driving in front of him,” police said. He was able to steer the vehicle combination out of the tunnel and stop it on the emergency lane.
A truck driver behind immediately rushed to assist with two portable fire extinguishers, allowing the fire to be quickly brought under control and eventually extinguished by Villach’s main fire station.
No people were injured. The extent of the material damage is not yet known.
