Hundreds of people have been evacuated after a volcanic eruption in northeastern Indonesia. According to the information, there were no deaths or injuries.
According to the relevant authority, Ruang first erupted in North Sulawesi province on Tuesday afternoon and then twice more early on Wednesday morning.
About 800 residents of the volcanic island of Ruang, located north of Sumatra, were evacuated. They were taken to the neighboring island of Tagulandang.
According to authorities, the volcano spewed a column of ash two kilometers high during its first eruption. During the second eruption it was 2.5 kilometers high.
Volcanologists on Tuesday raised the alert level for volcanic eruptions to the second-highest level, following two earthquakes in recent weeks.
