A 61-year-old was driving her car in Lauterach in Vorarlberg on Tuesday evening. Suddenly the woman fell into a microsleep and the car crashed into several border blocks: material damage.
The 61-year-old woman was driving her car on the national highway towards Bregenz in Lauterach around 5:30 PM on Tuesday. The driver fell into a microsleep and lost control of the car.
Diabetes as a cause of microsleep
The vehicle collided with four border blocks and a traffic light, which was damaged in the collision. Fortunately, the driver of the car was not injured, but was taken to hospital for a check-up. It cannot be excluded that microsleep is related to women’s diabetes.
The 61-year-old did not appear to be under the influence of alcohol. The vehicle, which came to a stop as if impaled, suffered significant damage, especially to the front. The operation involved a rescue vehicle, a federal police patrol and three vehicles with ten men from the Lauterach fire brigade.
