Everyone has moved – no more asylum seekers in Steyregger’s former hotel

Date:

The former CoHotel in Steyregg, which was used as asylum accommodation, has been in the news lately. The building is empty for the time being: the last young asylum seekers left the shelter on Thursday. However, the building remains the property of the BBU, which is responsible for housing refugees.

The mayor of Steyregg, Gerhard Hintringer (SPÖ), announced this in an information letter to the population. It continues: “In recent weeks it has become clear that the number of unaccompanied minor refugees in the CoHotel has decreased significantly.” On Thursday, the last asylum seekers still living there were relocated and the accommodation was therefore “closed”.

Countless missions
The district has made the news several times in recent months due to numerous police and fire operations – the latter mainly caused by deliberate false alarms. Mayor Hintringer then called a safety summit, which cut the occupancy numbers in half and increased the number of support staff.

The building remains the property of BBU
Now Hintringer says about the “Krone”: The vacant building remains the property of the Federal Agency for Care and Support Services (BBU), which takes care of asylum accommodation throughout Austria. It cannot therefore be ruled out that the district in Steyregg will be reopened at a later date.
