A 59-year-old from Schäffern, who lives on the top floor of a house with his wife (48) and their two children (15, 18), heard a loud bang (70, 77) from the children living there around 10:20 p.m. When he arrived on the ground floor, he discovered a fire in the living room.
The first attempts to extinguish the fire were unsuccessful
The man initially tried to fight the fire himself with a fire extinguisher, but that was no longer possible. The fire spread quickly and a short time later the living room was completely on fire. The family alerted the emergency services and fled outside.
Firefighters fought the fire
The fire brigade was alerted and was able to prevent the flames from spreading to other rooms. None of the residents were injured. The cause of the fire is still unclear. The investigation is ongoing. The damage caused has not yet been quantified.
