On Friday around 1:50 p.m., a 74-year-old pensioner from the Steyr-Land district tried to illegally cross the railway lines there at the Weyer train station. A freight train started moving and hit the pensioner.
As the man walked along the track, an empty container train traveling from Selzthal towards Ybbs waited in the station for permission to continue its journey. To get to the other side of the tracks, the 74-year-old climbed between two wagons.
Pensioner was run over
At that moment the freight train started moving and ran over the pensioner. He suffered serious injuries. Immediate first aid was provided by those who witnessed the accident and emergency services were notified. After the 74-year-old had been stabilized, he was flown to Amstetten Hospital with the rescue helicopter C 15. Due to the length of the train, the driver was unable to provide information about the incident or did not notice it.
