Success for Ukraine – London: Russia has probably lost 100 fighter jets so far

Date:

According to the British Ministry of Defense in London, it is “very likely that Russia has lost at least 100 fighter jets to date.” The crash of a Russian supersonic bomber on Friday – krone.at reported – was also likely the result of a shootout shot down by Ukraine, it is said.

It is almost certain that this will be another success for Kiev against the Russian air force, the British Ministry of Defense said on Saturday on X (formerly Twitter, see message below). “This is the first time a strategic bomber has been shot down by Ukrainian anti-aircraft systems.”

Supersonic heavy bomber shot down
The Russian Air Force lost one of its Tupolev Tu-22M3 supersonic heavy bombers (NATO reporting name “Backfire”) on Friday. The Ministry of Defense in Moscow spoke of a crash that probably had “technical causes”. The plane was said to have crashed in the southern Russian region of Stavropol – about 300 kilometers from the Ukrainian border.

Ukraine claimed this as a shooting. The commander of the Ukrainian Air Force, Mykola Oleshchuk, said it was the first time such a plane was shot down with a missile.

It is almost certain that the reports about the deployment of an S-200 missile are correct and that this is yet another successful Ukrainian operation against the Russian air force. This system is probably the same system that shot down a Russian A-50 (a reconnaissance aircraft) on February 23, the British Ministry of Defense writes on X.
