Problems with municipal housing – apartments in Vienna “uninhabitable” after renovation

Date:

Instead of a rent reduction due to years of noise and dirt, the tenants of a town hall in Floridsdorf are even left with the cleaning costs. This building has been renovated since 2014. But this does not only have positive effects.

The extensive municipal building complex on Jedleseer Straße has been renovated since 2014. Eight years of noise and dirt. The last windows and balconies are currently being renovated. But the joy of the renovation has given way to anger.

“I am shocked at how the construction workers left my and other apartments after the installation work was completed,” said tenant Susanne Wolff. From the carpets to the furniture and their interiors, everything is strewn with building dust that has penetrated even the smallest cracks. “I can’t live here just for health reasons,” she says.

Professional cleaning is expensive. Former district councilor Hansjörg Schimanek and FPÖ housing ombudsman Michael Niegl emphasize that Wiener Wohnen should bear the costs and reduce the rent. However, according to Wiener Wohnen, the tenants are responsible for cleaning themselves.
