A loud bang woke some residents from their sleep in Leopoldsdorf im Marchfelde in the Gänserndorf district on Sunday morning around 9 a.m. When heating up, a fire could occur in a single-family home and flue gases would have ignited. A man was seriously injured.
Flown to hospital with burns
The resident suffered burns to his upper body and face, but was able to call the emergency services himself. The seriously injured man also managed to close the chimney door, which prevented a fire. The man was flown to the AKH in Vienna by emergency medical helicopter. The investigation into the accident is ongoing.
