Bloody act in Piesendorf – prosecutor: ‘Urgent suspicion of murder’

Date:

Why did Sabrina L. (30) have to die? Despite the advertisement, despite the existing restraining order. There were signs of violence. But: “It is very difficult”, says the public prosecutor.

The Public Prosecution Service has requested pre-trial detention against Christian L. (41): Now the regional court must impose it. The Pinzgauer (Salzburg) is considered an “urgent suspect in the direction of murder,” emphasizes Elena Haslinger of the prosecution.

As the readers of “Krone” know, the host allegedly stabbed his wife three times with a kitchen knife at noon on Friday and strangled her. The mother of two bled to death in the kitchen of an inn in Piesendorf. The act was caused by a dispute between the divorced couple: As previously reported, Christian and Sabrina L. wanted to divorce after ten years of relationship and five years of marriage. The woman was also supposed to take over some bars.

It’s also a fact: In mid-April, Sabrina L. made a report to her husband for serious bodily harm, sustained pursuit and dangerous threats. The reason was an incident in February: at that time the 41-year-old would have pushed his victim. She would also have sent messages to the police that indicate stalking. Haslinger confirms that “a criminal complaint was filed on May 5” – so Christian L. was charged with the crime for a week.

Uncertainty about the contact ban
With the report, the police have issued an entry and approach ban. This was followed by a ban from the court of Zell am See at the request of the woman. Means: Christian L. wasn’t allowed to approach her, nor was he actually allowed to have any contact with her. Actually, because Sabrina L. revoked the warrant the day before the crime. In any case, the contact ban would have expired last weekend. “If the risk assessment of the victims of violence had ever been a good indicator, there would have been no murder of women in Austria,” said Uwe Höfferer of the Violence Prevention Advisory Center.

balancing act between victim protection and suspect rights
But why did the Public Prosecution Service not respond in April at the first signs of violence. For example with pre-trial detention? “It should be looked at differently. The guiltlessness of the suspect played a role. Detention is an extreme violation of personal freedom and there were measures. In such cases, balancing victim protection and the rights of the suspect is extremely difficult. I think that you can never prevent such an act 100 percent,’ explains Haslinger.
