According to Polish President Andrzej Duda, his country is ready to station American nuclear weapons if NATO deems it necessary. Now Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has spoken out, and he’s probably not so convinced about the idea. It is ‘very big and very serious’.
“I should know all the circumstances that led the president to make this statement,” Tusk said in Warsaw on Monday. He therefore wanted to meet Duda to understand his intentions. Any initiative must be very well prepared, and those responsible must be convinced that they really want to deploy American nuclear weapons.
As reported, Duda had said that Poland was ready for the use of US nuclear weapons, should NATO deem it necessary. “If our allies make such a decision to station nuclear weapons on our territory as part of nuclear weapons sharing to strengthen the security of NATO’s eastern flank, we are ready to do so.” -chief of the army.
Military ally of Ukraine
The EU and NATO country Poland is one of Ukraine’s closest military allies. It also borders the Russian exclave of Kaliningrad and Russia’s ally Belarus. The United States has stationed nuclear weapons in several European countries for decades. This includes Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Italy and Turkey.
