Shocking figures – Strong increase in sexual offenses in Tyrol

Date:

These are numbers that will leave you speechless and shocking, and mentioned only marginally or not at all in the annual police statistics. A response from the Ministry of the Interior to the FPÖ shows that sex crimes in this country rose by as much as 22.8 percent between 2020 and 2021. Expressed in absolute numbers: 601 violations were counted in 2020, the following year there were 738, so 137 more.

The response also details which crimes — from “inciting sexual contact with minors” to rape — it was specific and in which neighborhood and location it took place. To list them all would be beyond the scope. The “Krone” therefore provides the most impressive facts. On the one hand, it is striking that the number of rapes in all of Tyrol rose by 14 from 87 in 2020 to 101 in the following year. This corresponds to an increase of 16.1 percent.

In contrast, 313 cases of pornographic images of minors were counted. In 2020 there were still 208. The increase in this area is therefore an almost unbelievable 50.5 percent or 105 cases.

Kitzbühel and Kufstein negative front runners
A look at the nine districts also reveals interesting facts. Because the number of sexual offenses decreased in only four of them. The most positive example is Reutte with a minus of 24 percent. This is followed by Schwaz (-19.7 percent), Innsbruck (-9.5 percent) and Lienz (-5.9 percent).

In the other five districts, however, there was strong growth. The negative leaders are Kitzbühel with an increase of 146.2 percent and Kufstein with 91.8 percent. Imst follows in third place with an increase of 73.7 percent. Innsbruck-Land (+21.8 percent) and Landeck (+14.8 percent) took fourth and fifth place.

A third of the perpetrators from abroad
Alarming in the top districts: Crimes involving pornographic images of minors in Kitzbühel have increased by 185.7 percent from 35 to 100. In the fortified district, where cocaine consumption is also the highest in Austria, there was an increase in 105.9 percent with 17 cases in 2020 and 35 in the following year.

Of course, there was also a national increase in the number of suspects, namely by 22.7 percent from 675 to 828. One third of the perpetrators came from abroad.
