Fright for passengers in a Viennese Bim on Tuesday evening: An unknown man allegedly punched a woman several times in the face on tram line 5 towards Westbahnhof. Numerous passers-by would have immediately shown moral courage and dragged the bully away from the woman. The suspect is on the run.
“The woman was slightly injured,” police spokesman Mattias Schuster told Krone on Wednesday. The attack took place around 7:25 p.m. in front of Burggasse station. The woman received several blows to the face during the attack. Why? This is still being investigated.
Passengers showed moral courage
The perpetrator fled after the incident and is now being sought. In an interview with the ‘Krone’, a stricken passer-by was impressed by the moral courage of the passengers: “No one looked away, everyone helped the poor woman.” The incident was brought to attention by loud shouting in the backseat of the Bim. “Everyone was panicking, we didn’t know what was going on at first,” said the 25-year-old.
The victim is still being questioned
With the help of the driver and passengers, serious injuries to the woman could probably have been prevented. “The victim has not yet been interviewed,” Schuster said.
