Silent apparition – a bang in Innsbruck: Benko in court

Date:

The real estate juggler René Benko has become extremely rare due to his fatal business failure. But now he has unexpectedly appeared in court in Innsbruck. It is about his bankruptcy as an entrepreneur.

The appointment was important for Benko because he used it as an excuse for his absence from the investigative committee on Wednesday. This is Benko’s first public appearance since the real estate group’s financial problems and the bankruptcies of numerous Signa companies.

Didn’t even have to show up in person
The entrepreneur, dressed in a suit and tie, kept quiet in front of the numerous journalists, photographers and camera crews present. He did not want to answer any questions, but stormed into the courtroom with his lawyer. According to the law, Benko did not actually have to appear in person at the meeting in his hometown.

Creditors have filed hundreds of millions of claims against the 46-year-old. At the meeting, the liquidator will announce, among other things, how much of it is recognized and how much is disputed.

The bankruptcy proceedings concern the Benkos consultancy firm and all its private assets, including abroad.

It’s a lot of money
Court spokeswoman Birgit Fink emphasized that an “initial inventory” would be carried out during the meeting. That means: how many assets and liabilities or liabilities are there. How many demands exist and how many of them are recognized? 25 to 30 creditors have filed claims against the fallen Signa founder and alleged multi-billionaire.

The amounts would range from relatively small amounts to millions. In any case, it has become known that the court wants to communicate, among other things, the extent of the recognized claims on Wednesday.
