Dramatic scenes recently unfolded on the southern Spanish coast: drug smugglers tried to escape during a chase with a Civil Guard speedboat (see video above). As part of Operation Arrow, authorities seized several tons of hashish.
In addition to more than twelve tons of hashish, 630 kilograms of cocaine were also seized during the raid. The arrest of 63 people is said to have dealt a serious blow to the drug mafia operating on the Andalusian coast and the Guadalquivir River.
More than 12,000 liters of fuel were seized
As part of Operation Arrow, 13 boats and 12,634 liters of fuel were seized, dealing a blow to the logistical capabilities of drug trafficking groups. They often use small boats to deliver fuel and provisions to high-speed boats that remain at sea for long periods of time to avoid being intercepted.
Andalusia has been a drug stronghold for decades
The operation, which is still ongoing, involved several Civil Guard units on water, land and in the air. The southern Spanish region of Andalusia has been a drug stronghold for decades, especially along the Strait of Gibraltar.
