Not only many tuning fans, but also the Carinthian tourism industry are critical of the cancellation of the GTI meeting for 2023. The short-term decision of the municipalities was “ill-considered and not related to the industry”. Now a round table should calm the waves.
Since 1982, the GTI meeting has brought money and attention to the Wörthersee and Reifnitz, but that is now over. However, the Carinthian tourism industry does not want to let the unilateral cancellation of the traditional GTI meeting by the municipality of Maria Wörth stand. “We do not accept local politicians making such far-reaching decisions without consulting local tourism professionals and businesses,” said Josef Petritsch, head of the Chamber of Commerce’s tourism and leisure industry department.
Partner Volkswagen was also alienated by the short-term cancellation. Petritsch therefore calls for a round table in which all stakeholders from politics, tourism companies, representatives of the Volkswagen Group and other parties should participate.

That automotive events need to be reassessed from a climate change point of view is by no means ignored. “However, out of respect for our guests, some of whom have been with us for decades or even into the second generation, and for the regional tourism companies, who need time for a possible transition, we need to work together to create a path that everyone involved can and want to take,” emphasized Petritsch. Some tuning fans have even placed grave candles in front of the GTI stone in Reifnitz in recent days.
