Pre-invasion strategy – Zelenskyy didn’t want to “panic” the country

Date:

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy justified the decision not to openly prepare for war before February 24 by saying his country should not have panicked. From the fall of 2021, the United States would have increasingly warned him of a Russian invasion ordered by President Vladimir Putin, Zelenskyj told the American newspaper “Washington Post”. His leadership wanted to prevent an economic collapse and keep the population in the country.

If he had then told his compatriots to hoard money and food, “I would have lost $7 billion every month since last October,” the president said. “And if Russia attacked, they would have captured us in three days.”

Selenskyj justifies his actions
Zelenskyj justified himself: “In general, our inner feeling was right: if we sow chaos among the people before the invasion, the Russians will eat us. Because in the chaos people are fleeing the country.” Keeping the people in Ukraine was key to the defense of the country.

Criticism of Selenskyj
Critics say Zelensky, despite warnings, did not better prepare Ukraine for the invasion. In Tuesday’s lengthy article, the Washington Post outlines how the leadership of US President Joe Biden concluded in the fall of 2021 that Russia would attack the neighboring country anyway. The Secret Service’s corresponding findings were then gradually shared with the Allies, Ukraine and the public.
