A 31-year-old woman from Burgenland has become a victim of internet fraud. According to police information, the woman from the Neusiedl am See district had given her account details to a fake site on Saturday after placing an online order. Criminals then wrote off an amount of a mid-three-digit euro.
According to the Burgenland State Police Directorate, the incident dates back to last Thursday. The day after placing an order online, the 31-year-old received a text message that the package she wanted could not be delivered due to the missing house number. A link has also been sent to resolve the alleged issue.
Victim did not know that website was fake
After one click, the woman from Burgenland was redirected to the supposed home page of the post. There she was asked to enter her account information. What the 31-year-old failed to realize was that it was a fraudulent site designed to steal account information.
The illegitimate booking was eventually discovered by another person with access to the victim’s account. A complaint was filed, two further charges were prevented by an account block.
