A young scammer who offered and sold counterfeit mobile phones as branded goods on internet sales platforms was caught red-handed in Graz. A 38-year-old fell for the 19-year-old and hired her son to also pretend to buy the same smartphone from the same seller. But then the police also appeared for the purchase and transfer. The suspect has been arrested, it was reported on Saturday.
The woman from Graz had already discovered the mobile phone on the sales platform in the middle of the week and contacted the 19-year-old. She hoped for a good purchase, but only realized it was a fake when she opened the package after delivery. Two days later, her 21-year-old son found the same ad with the same photo on the Internet and contacted the seller.
When they agreed on a transfer date, the mother and son called police on Friday. The detectives of the police command of the city of Graz arrested the suspect at the handover. It is now being investigated whether he may have defrauded other buyers and whether there were accomplices.
