The Russian government never misses an opportunity to take destroyed military equipment from Western stockpiles for propaganda purposes – even if it is sometimes fake footage. It has already happened that the shooting down of a tractor was celebrated as the destruction of a Leopard 2 main battle tank. To mark the upcoming Victory Day, tanks and other vehicles ‘captured’ from Ukraine will now be put on display in Moscow.
Images of transports to the Russian capital have been circulating on social media for days (see videos below). Russian military broadcaster ‘Zvezda’ said on Wednesday that an exhibition with around thirty types of weapons and equipment from twelve different countries will open in Moscow’s ‘Victory Park’ on May 1.
Ukraine lost Marder infantry fighting vehicles
The exhibition would be about success “against Ukrainian militants and their Western supporters”.
Particularly well preserved is a Marder infantry fighting vehicle of the German Bundeswehr. The Russians are very proud of this “loot”.
Of the 90 armored vehicles delivered from Germany, half a dozen were lost in Ukraine. Some of them are apparently in Russian hands. In addition, Leopard battle tanks and Bradley infantry fighting vehicles from the US will also be made available to the general public from May 1.
