The first phase of the extensive renovation works on the Lesarri Tunnel in Bergara began in September and the facility is expected to return to service tomorrow.
The AP-1 highway remains closed this Friday evening between the Bergara South interchange and the Maltzaga interchange due to works to allow the opening of the first phase of the renovated Lesarri Tunnel, as reported by the Gipuzkoa Provincial Council.
The works to strengthen the support, coating and renovation of the installations of the two tubes of the Lesarri tunnel on the AP-1 near Bergara started in September.
The closure will start at 9 p.m. in the direction of Behobia and at 9.30 p.m. in the direction of Vitoria and will last until nine o’clock on Saturday morning. Alternatively, traffic heading from the AP-8 towards Vitoria should use the Eibar exit and continue on the GI-627 until the Bergara-Sur entrance to access the AP-1 take the same route in the opposite direction leaving Bergara Sur to get to the AP-8 via the Eibar junction. To limit traffic disruption as much as possible, the work will be carried out at night.
Once the renovation of the tunnel in the Vitoria-Gasteiz direction is completed, the two tunnels will remain open between May and September 2023 to facilitate the traffic generated during the summer with departure and return operations.
After the summer break, in September 2024, work will resume to renew the pipe in the direction of Behobia. The work will end in May 2025 and traffic will be diverted via the ring road in the renovated tunnel in the direction of Vitoria-Gasteiz.
