“Pretty cuddly” – roadside assistance rescued rabbits from the Salzburg autobahn

Date:

A ÖAMTC roadside assistance was working as an animal rescuer on Saturday afternoon. He was repairing a breakdown in Whitsun traffic on the Tauernautobahn (A 10) near Altenmarkt im Pongau when he saw a scared rabbit walking around on the road. Florian Pirchner blocked the road with his breakdown car and tried to catch the animal.

“In this case, the traffic jam was a good thing, as the vehicles were moving slowly at a stop-and-go pace,” Pirchner said. With the help of German vacationers, the 31-year-old managed to catch the hanging rabbit. “At first I thought it was a hare, but this animal is very trusting and very cuddly. Either it escaped or it was abandoned,” Pirchner suspects.

Roadside assistance took the animal in a box with air holes on the passenger seat, the ÖAMTC reported Monday. After work, he looked after the rabbit at home. “Maybe the owner will contact us after all,” hopes Pirchner. If not, the rabbit is always welcome on a farm with friends of the “Yellow Angel”.
