A Romanian father did not bring his child (10) home after the semester break. The mother complains to the regional court: “I couldn’t see my son for nine months.” More than two years after the incident, the man is now wanted on an arrest warrant.
A Romanian (43) was scheduled to appear as a defendant before the Salzburg Regional Court on Thursday at 2 p.m. Because he took his son (10) and never brought him back. The crime is called child abduction.
“Not for a second” was she allowed to see the child alone
The judge emphasizes that he stayed away from the trial without an excuse and decides to negotiate in absentia. To do this, she calls the child’s mother to the witness stand. “He picked it up for semester break and never brought it back,” the woman said. That was in February 2022, a few months after the divorce.
Initially, father and child were in Sweden, but since November 2022 they have been in Romania – in the parents’ hometown. The mother knows this ‘through personal contacts’, she says.
“I wasn’t allowed to see him again until nine months later,” she complains. And since the child was kidnapped, “I have not spent a single hour alone with my son.” The father torpedoes everything and argues: the son no longer wants to see his mother. “The child is under strong influence from my ex-husband,” she knows. Although she has sole custody and a court order, the Romanian authorities refuse to act.
That’s why the father should be arrested. To this end, the public prosecutor applies for an EU arrest warrant. The judge postponed the trial until then.
