ELA has reported that the forestry sector suffers from a “very high” accident rate and that 12 workers have been killed in the activity since 2021.
a 22 year old employee that last Wednesday, April 24, he suffered a serious blow while carrying out forestry work on Mount El Peso in Art Zentales He passed away this Monday.
According to the ELA union, the deceased worker had only been in the sector for two months and worked for the company Forestal Bejarano e Hijo SL.
Apparently one of the pine trees they had cut down got stuck and when he used machinery to loosen it, it hit the worker.
ELA has indicated that in 2024 “23 employees in Hego Euskal Herria have already died as a result of an industrial accident”, five of them in Bizkaia.
He emphasized that the forestry sector is suffering accident rate “very high” and that twelve workers have been killed in this activity since 2021.
In view of this new death, ELA will meet on Tuesday, April 30 at 12 noon at Euskadi Square in Zalla.
