Two seriously injured – Styria swerved to avoid deer: car landed on its roof

Serious accident Monday evening on the L 646 in Deutschlandsberg: After a deer jumped onto the road, the driver veered off the road and crashed into several trees. His car overturned and landed on its roof. The 22-year-old driver and his passenger were seriously injured.

The accident happened around 10 p.m. from Weinebene towards Osterwitz. “Because the deer jumped onto the road, the driver turned his vehicle to the left and left the road,” police said on Tuesday. The car hit several trees and came to rest on its roof several meters below the road.

The occupants (both from the Deutschlandsberg district) received first aid from the Red Cross at the scene of the accident. The 22-year-old driver was then driven to the LKH Deutschlandsberg, his 21-year-old passenger was flown to the LKH Graz by the Christophorus 17 rescue helicopter.

The volunteers from the Osterwitz, Trahütten and Wildbach fire brigades carried out road safety measures and recovered the vehicle.
