Child missing for 17 years – Maddie case: police should get more money

17 years after the disappearance of little Madeleine McCann, the British Home Office is making extra money available for the investigation. Madeleine McCann, then three years old, disappeared from a holiday apartment in Praia da Luz, Portugal, on May 3, 2007, while her parents were out for dinner. The girl would be 21 years old today.

The ministry has approved a maximum of £192,000 (€224,619) for the Metropolitan Police for the year 2024/2025.

Already invested 15.4 million euros in search
By the end of March, the total cost of ‘Operation Grange’ would have amounted to 13.2 million pounds (about 15.4 million euros), Secretary of State Andrew Sharpe wrote. The budget currently funds a team of three police officers and one other employee, all on a part-time basis.
