A 46-year-old landlord in Kronstorf probably became a lifesaver on Sunday. A 38-year-old Slovenian man forgot that he was heating a pot of fat on the electric stove and went to sleep. The landlord noticed the smoke and immediately ran into the unlocked apartment.
A police patrol was called to an apartment fire in Kronstorf on Sunday around 3:45 p.m. When the police officers arrived, the FF Kronstorf was already on the scene with three vehicles and 22 people. A vehicle from FF Hargelsberg with seven occupants was alerted. The fire was quickly extinguished and further spread was prevented.
Apartment was unlocked
During the investigation it turned out that the 38-year-old Slovenian tenant was sleeping in the apartment and had forgotten to heat a pot of fat/oil on the electric stove. The 46-year-old apartment owner was doing work in the basement at the time and noticed smoke coming from the 38-year-old’s apartment. He then immediately ran upstairs and entered the unlocked apartment.
Hot oil splashed around
There he noticed the hot oil splashing around in the kitchen. He immediately turned off the stove and looked for the tenant of the apartment. He could find him sleeping in the bedroom. He took the man outside and tried to put out the fire with a powder extinguisher, but that failed. He was supported by his sister-in-law. Due to the heavy smoke, the 46-year-old stopped putting out the fire and went outside.
Taken to hospital
The tenant of the apartment, the owner of the apartment and his sister-in-law were taken to the Pyhrn-Eisenwurzen clinic in Steyr as a precaution due to suspected smoke poisoning.
