Uncertainty reigns in Vienna: a gang of burglars who use highly poisonous and highly corrosive nitric acid to break into apartments are particularly active in Landstrasse. Six other apartments were evacuated by the thugs.
The Krieglergasse in Vienna’s third district is a very quiet street, with mainly only apartments and hardly any shops. However, this is where fear and uncertainty are currently circulating. It was not without reason that the same house was targeted by a gang of criminals for the second time.
Gang traced through half of Europe
On the night of August 6 to 7, 2023, burglars – as we now know, Georgians – broke into the house. They were looking for jewelry, gold and money. To enter the apartments, they dripped poisonous and corrosive nitric acid into the locks until they dissolved. In total, the gang cleared out more than 300 apartments in half of Europe in 2022 and 2023, including 55 in Vienna. They were arrested.
The third district is clearly in the spotlight this year
But the evil game with the dangerous acid did not end. The burglaries started again in August this year. At an address in the second arrondissement, otherwise it only concerned the third arrondissement. Oberzellergasse, Keinergasse, Wassergasse – and on the night of November 23, again that house on Krieglergasse that had already been evacuated once.
Vienna – Stockholm – and more Vienna
According to information from “Krone”, four apartments were affected this time – there is anger, fear and uncertainty among the residents. In addition, two apartments in Kegelgasse, only about 300 meters away, were “dropped” and evacuated. By the way, not only Vienna is affected. Stockholm, Sweden, also reported an increased incidence of acid attacks in the fall. The criminals then probably rented a living space in the area of the third arrondissement.
Be careful with the corrosive acid
Always in danger: all residents, firefighters and police officers. The acid can cause serious internal and external burns. A circumstance that continues to puzzle researchers. Because no one yet knows exactly where the acid comes from and where it is mixed together for the burglaries, which can last up to two hours. If you find your lock damaged or liquid in front of your door, call the fire brigade and police immediately!
