There were problems with passport control at several British airports on Tuesday evening. The result was chaos and long queues at London’s Heathrow and Gatwick airports, as well as at Manchester Airport. The so-called e-gates, the passages with electronic passport control, will probably be temporarily closed.
Manchester Airport confirmed on X that it was a national problem with the e-gates. They said Tuesday evening they were trying to keep disruption to a minimum while Border Patrol worked to resolve the problem.
Passengers at Heathrow who inquired about the issue via Our teams are supporting the Border Patrol with their contingency plans to resolve the issue as quickly as possible and we apologize for any impact on their journey.”
Problems solved
Everything is now back to normal, as can be read on the Heathrow Airport X account. Travelers should no longer have to deal with longer waiting times.
