Ukraine under pressure – Russia is trying to break through in the Kharkov region

Date:

According to the governor of the Kharkiv region in northeastern Ukraine, Oleh Synehubow, Russian troops tried to break the border with Ukraine. He said on Telegram that they had stepped up shelling of the city of Vovchansk, which is near the border with Russia.

According to Ukrainian sources, between 35,000 and 50,000 Russian soldiers and 400 tanks have gathered in the border area in recent days. The attack attempts were repulsed and the Ukrainian forces “confidently maintained their positions and did not lose a single meter,” the governor wrote.

Fights “of varying intensity”
Synehubow continued that Russia does not have the resources to advance to the city of Kharkov of the same name. The actions of Russian troops at the border are a “provocation”. To strengthen the troops there, Kiev sent additional soldiers to the area. Meanwhile, fighting continued “in varying degrees of intensity.”

Kiev had previously announced that it had intercepted and destroyed 10 Russian threats during the night. Moscow also fired two anti-aircraft guided missiles, the Ukrainian Air Force said on Telegram. What happened to the missiles initially remained unclear.

Ukraine sets oil refinery on fire
According to a media report, an oil refinery in Russia’s Kaluga region caught fire after a Ukrainian drone attack. The Russian state news agency RIA reports this based on insiders from the emergency services. The fire at the “Pervyi Zavod” refinery in Kaluga destroyed three containers of diesel fuel and one of fuel oil.

In recent months, Ukraine has increasingly attacked energy facilities on Russian territory, mainly targeting fuel supplies for Russian troops.
