The emergency happens often enough anyway: The comrades of four fire brigades in the Krems district (Lower Austria) were warned about a suspected plane crash – but a cheerful pilot met them on the spot. He had previously made an emergency landing in a field.
A sensational alarm called the Eisengraben fire brigade in the Krems district to the scene on Monday. Together with comrades from Gföhl, Sperkental and Krumau, the local Florianis rushed to the place where they suspected a plane crash. Fortunately, when we got there, it quickly became clear.
Pilot transformed “standard situation”
Although the field landing was not exactly planned, the spontaneous touchdown was a “standardized maneuver” due to the lack of a thermal connection, according to the pilot. Neither the glider nor the man in the cockpit suffered major damage in the alleged crash. Firefighters only had to help the pilot push his unpowered plane out of the field.
At this point the “ground crew” from the nearby Gneixendorf airport came by with a trailer to recover the aircraft. The pilot’s friends also took the incident with humor: “His biggest problem now is that he has to pay us for a snack!”
Invitation to balloon days as a thank you
And the owner of the field was also understanding, as the farmer also owns a field right next to Gneixendorf airport. As a thank you for the “rescue”, the Union Sportflieger Club Krems invited the firefighters to the Balloon Days from August 15 to 18. A precision landing!
