A 55-year-old drove the wrong way on the A9 on Friday afternoon. There was a head-on collision with a truck, which was fatal to the driver. The highway was then closed for almost three hours.
It was shortly after four in the afternoon when the 55-year-old from the Leoben district wanted to drive back onto the Pyhrnautbahn from a rest stop. But he accidentally took the wrong exit and shortly afterwards drove the wrong way on the A9 towards Liezen.
The driver died at the scene of the accident
At kilometer 121.87, near Kammern in Liesingtal, the driver collided head-on with a truck. The 57-year-old driver from South-East Styria could no longer avoid the collision.
Although rescue measures were immediately taken, all help for the 55-year-old came too late. He died at the scene of the accident. The A9 was closed between 4:20 p.m. due to the accident.
