Shocking attack on Friday evening in the Meidling district of Vienna: An unknown person allegedly attacked a 33-year-old from behind at a tram station, first with a punch and then with a sharp object. The man was stabbed in the stomach and there is no trace of the attacker.
The 33-year-old was sitting on a park bench at a tram station in Meidling around 4:45 am. Suddenly, ‘out of nowhere’, he felt a hard blow on his back. When he turned around, the stranger allegedly stabbed him in the stomach with a sharp object – police believe it was a knife.
Passersby heard cries for help
The attacker fled. A passerby heard the injured man’s cries for help and alerted the police. The 33-year-old was taken to hospital after receiving emergency medical care from Vienna’s professional rescue service.
The immediate search for the unknown man was unsuccessful. The Vienna State Criminal Investigation Department secured the traces and took over the investigation.
