Almost at the same time, serious accidents occurred during woodworking in Tyrol on Saturday morning. In Vals (Innsbruck-Land district), a 56-year-old man got his hand entangled in a rotating circular saw, and in Hippach in the Zillertal, a farmer (70) was seriously injured while working with a wood splitter.
The serious accident took place at 9.10am in Hippach. The 70-year-old farmer was splitting wood with a wood splitter. “When a part became stuck, the man reached under the piece of wood with his right hand to pull it forward,” police reported.
Three fingers caught
As a result, he accidentally pressed the foot pedal, trapping three fingers between the piece of wood and the splitter table. The 70-year-old suffered serious injuries and was flown by helicopter to the clinic in Innsbruck after receiving first aid.
Five minutes later another accident
Just a few minutes later the industrial accident took place in Vals. The 56-year-old local resident was cutting firewood. When he tried to clear a piece of wood, he got too close to the saw blade, causing his glove to get stuck in the rotating saw blade.
He was also flown by emergency helicopter to the clinic in Innsbruck with serious injuries.
