Russian troops have entered the Kharkov region. “The enemy is currently achieving tactical successes,” the Ukrainian General Staff said on Monday evening. On Sunday, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke of “bitter fighting” in the region.
The aim of the Russian attacks is to “tear apart our armed forces and undermine morale.” The Ukrainian governor of the region said the border areas were under attack “almost around the clock.” According to him, more than 4,000 people have already been evacuated from the area. On Friday, the Russian army launched a ground offensive with armored vehicles.
15 dead, 20 injured
On Sunday, the Russian border region of Belgorod was hit by Soviet-era missiles. At least fifteen people were killed and twenty others were injured. It is said that a child is still missing. According to Russian information it was a Ukrainian attack. Debris from one of the Tochka-U missiles that was intercepted damaged a residential building in the city of Belgorod.
Images show that at least ten floors of the building have collapsed. As rescuers searched the rubble for survivors, the roof collapsed. Both the Ukrainian and Russian militaries claim they do not target civilians. There was initially no explanation from the Ukrainian side.
