After the victory of the Swiss Nemo at the Eurovision Song Contest, the debate about the third gender entry has flared up again in our neighboring country. Tens of thousands of people are not allowed to define themselves as either women or men.
This was said by Sandro Niederer of the Transgender Network Switzerland, who hopes for improvements for so-called non-binary people. The goal would be a third, or, alternatively, no gender input at all for those affected. Non-binary people experience discrimination, but are now also heard, as Nemo’s victory shows. Society is willing to adapt.
Minister of Justice wants to meet Nemo
Nemo is also campaigning for a third gender entry in Switzerland. The artist was greeted by around a hundred fans at Zurich airport late on Sunday evening. Many held banners and flags in the non-binary colors yellow, white, purple and black. The reception was “great,” Nemo said happily. “It showed me how much fun it is to be part of a community.”
People who feel neither male nor female need a voice and need to be heard. The Bieler said in November that he was non-binary (see video above).
Now the Swiss Minister of Justice and Police and SP Federal Councilor Beat Jans want to meet him for an interview. Nemo says he is already looking forward to having coffee with the minister soon.
