Ukraine says it has thwarted a series of Russian bombings. These are said to have been carried out at hardware stores and near a cafe in the capital Kiev, as well as at a defense company in the city of Lviv.
Two Russian soldiers were arrested on suspicion of involvement in the alleged plot and 19 explosives were also seized, the Ukrainian Prosecutor General’s Office wrote on Telegram on Monday.
The bombs were scheduled to explode on May 9
According to the Ukrainian domestic secret service SBU, four bombs were expected to be detonated in Kiev on May 9, the day Russia celebrated the Soviet victory over Nazi Germany. This is reported by the Reuters news agency.
“According to the Russian intelligence plan, the explosives were supposed to detonate during peak hours to cause maximum damage to the civilian population,” the Ukrainian Prosecutor General’s Office said.
