Military personnel from seven countries continued a large-scale airborne exercise in Romania on Tuesday. The program included the transportation of reinforcements and materials. The soldiers also had to train to attack an enemy radar station and artillery positions.
The day before, more than 1,400 paratroopers were dropped from 14 aircraft in two waves. During the maneuver, the soldiers jumped from a height of about 400 meters and landed in an open field. They approached the airport from different directions and also passed a Romanian village.
A dozen slightly injured
The goal was reached after about six hours. Soldiers from the German Airborne Brigade 1 from Saarland brought the airport under control shortly before midnight. On the first day, about ten participants suffered minor injuries. This was described as a very small number.
According to NATO, ‘Swift Response’ is the largest airborne exercise in Europe since the Second World War. The aim is to demonstrate responsiveness, practice for emergencies and show strength against Russia (see video above).
