Since the legalization of cannabis on April 1, seven percent of respondents in Germany have purchased seeds (see video above). Another eleven percent still intend to do so, according to a representative survey by the YouGov opinion research institute.
Those who buy cannabis seeds for private cultivation are mainly young people between the ages of 18 and 34. Three plants may be grown per person, although allotments are excluded and the seeds, plants and harvested cannabis must be protected from theft and from children. This requires lockable cabinets and rooms.
Since April 1, the possession and consumption of cannabis has been legal for adults in Germany. A maximum of 50 grams may be kept at home and citizens may take a maximum of 25 grams with them when traveling. This explicitly concerns personal use; passing on and selling remains prohibited.
Many exceptions
However, a ban on cannabis can be included in the house rules. Deutsche Bahn, for example, uses this. In addition, smoking weed is not allowed near children and young people, schools, kindergartens, playgrounds and sports fields. Pedestrian zones are also excluded during the day. Violations are punishable by fines.
