Big commotion on Wednesday afternoon in Leonding. A 13-year-old boy was hit by a tram, thrown to the ground and had to be taken to hospital with injuries. The boy probably crossed the tracks to reach his tram.
On Wednesday around 1:45 p.m., a 34-year-old from Linz rode tram line 4 from Linz towards Traun during a training ride. Next to him sat his 28-year-old training driver, also from Linz. According to current research, a 13-year-old from the Linz-Land district crossed the B139, which runs parallel to the track, and the track going out of the city, presumably to reach a tram already at the stop .
Rescue helicopter on site
Even though the 34-year-old immediately applied emergency braking, he was unable to avoid a collision with the boy. The 13-year-old was thrown to the ground by the collision and suffered unknown injuries. The Leonding Red Cross and the already arrived rescue helicopter C 10 provided first aid to the injured person.
He was then taken to the hospital in Linz by the Leonding rescue team. The accident investigation at the track site was completed around 2:20 p.m. and the tram was able to run again.
