Political motive? – Fico assassin ‘dreamed’ of death and revolution

Date:

According to eyewitness accounts, he mingled with the Slovak Prime Minister’s supporters and waited for him. Little is known about the murderer Robert Ficos. The motive for the crime is completely unclear, but the 71-year-old writer is said to have expressed his contempt for the left-wing populist government leader several times on social media.

As the weekly magazine “Plus 7 Dni” reports, 71-year-old Juraj C. is one of the founders of the literary club DÚHA. In one of his numerous poems, C. himself wrote about death and revolution. At one point it is translated: “In my dreams my hands hurt from the handcuffs. (…) In my dreams the police were looking for me. (…) In my dreams I spent seven years in prison.”

Announced in video stop according to Medium
According to the news platform ‘Aktuality’, C. even published a video in which he announced an attack because he disagreed with Fico’s politics. The 71-year-old is said to have legally possessed the murder weapon. In 2016, he was the victim of an assassination attempt as an employee of a private security company in a shopping center. He was then allowed to possess weapons, it was said Wednesday evening.

“Climate of hostility”: Fico warned of violence
Interior Minister Matúš Šutaj Eštok said authorities assumed a political motive. Just a few days ago, Fico accused the liberal opposition of creating a “climate of hostility” against the government. It cannot be ruled out that an act of violence will take place somewhere in such a climate.

The founder and leader of the left-wing party Smer-SSD, which has recently become increasingly nationalist, has been one of the most popular politicians in Slovakia for almost thirty years. But at the same time he polarizes Slovak society like no other. Opponents call him ‘pro-Russian’ and accuse him of wanting to lead Slovakia on the same course as Viktor Orbán’s Hungary.
