A 47-year-old allegedly attacked his painting colleague with nine stabs at the last Christmas party. Completely uncharacteristic of him, the defendant assures: “I have grown fond of my colleagues. And everyone loves me too.” To make this clear, he brings a drawing of Jesus to the court.
On December 15 of the previous year, a painting company just around the corner celebrated Christmas in a brewery in Vienna-Landstrasse. There was a lot of drinking: “After the meal there were liters of vodka. “Just vodka, vodka and more vodka,” a 47-year-old just remembered. He “drank at least a liter” of it – after which the Croat’s memories faded.
Colleagues received nine stitches
And that also includes nine stab wounds that he gave his colleague in the upper body in front of the Viennese restaurant. The 43-year-old told the completely drunk man: “Come on, go home.” The suspect then pulled out a knife and forcefully stabbed the victim in the stomach and side.
Completely out of character, his lawyer at the Vienna Regional Court wants to convince the jury – which will decide on the suspect’s attempted murder. “He can’t explain how he could do this. He is actually a very peaceful person. He is happy that the gentleman was not seriously injured.”
The 47-year-old himself would like to explain his nature to chairman Nicole Baczak: “I was there with my colleagues at work, whom I love very much. So I really started to like her. Everyone loves me too. There have never been any problems.” To illustrate his charity, the Croat held a homemade drawing of Jesus in front of the gates of heaven before the trial.
According to him, Christmas was a little different – as far as he could remember. Four colleagues attacked him out of nowhere and he just defended himself. Hematomas on the face should prove this. How the jury will decide remains to be seen.
