After the assassination attempt on Fico: death threats against other Slovak politicians

Date:

While Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, who was seriously injured in an assassination attempt, remains in intensive care, several high-ranking politicians in the country are apparently receiving death threats. The arrested attacker (71) appeared in court for the first time on Saturday. You can see his arrival in the video above.

Interior Minister Matúš Šutaj Eštok, who belongs to the second largest ruling party ‘Voice – Social Democracy’ (Hlas-SD), told the daily ‘Pravda’ that he himself had also received death threats. A member of parliament from the largest ruling party ‘Towards – Slovak Social Democracy’ (Smer-SSD), led by Fico, was also threatened. In both cases a perpetrator was identified.

Earlier, death threats against liberal opposition leader Michal Šimečka and his family had become known. In addition to specific death threats, the number of aggressive statements on social media has also increased sharply, Slovak media report, citing experts.

Fico, 59, underwent another surgery on Friday. The condition of the attack victim remains serious, but there is progress. His deputy, Defense Minister Robert Kaliňák, informed the public that it would take a few days to assess the prospects for recovery.
