There was an apartment fire in Vienna-Liesing on Sunday evening. A resident of the house was able to escape the flames in time via the balcony.
The fire broke out on the third floor of a house on Gustav-Holzmann-Platz. A spokesperson for the responsible municipal service 68 (MA 68) confirmed that a man was just able to escape to the balcony of the apartment. Around 4 a.m. the resident could be taken outside via the stairwell. There he was injured and was handed over to the rescue service.
Two hour operation
The fire brigade had previously tried to get him off the balcony with a ladder, but the man was unable to do so due to his condition. The fire was extinguished after about two hours. About 27 firefighters were present. Nothing is yet known about the cause.
