Favorite says: “Only four Austrians live in my building”

Date:

Many of our readers in the large ‘Krone’ integration series are calling for a better distribution of refugees across all districts of Vienna. A favorite talks about her community building.

I have lived in Favoriten since childhood, with some interruptions, but for 44 years now,” writes Brigitta K. “I live in a municipal building where there are almost no people who know the German language, let alone Austrians! There are exactly four parties living on my stairs that are Austrian. We are between 78 and 90 years old.”

The noise in her settlement particularly annoys her: “A Turkish family with four children lives above me. Although I have often tried to politely request that they at least keep the children under control after 10pm, that hasn’t changed in years!”

“Can’t speak German”
Many readers are calling for one thing in particular: better distribution of refugees and newcomers across all districts. And German is a subject in most letters. Heinz N.: “My neighbors have been living in Vienna for 25 years and neither of them speaks German. The grandchild is Austrian by birth, but only speaks Arabic and Serbian!”

Dear readers, how can integration work? Please send emails with your ideas to: wien@kronenzeitung.at. Or to: Kronen Zeitung, editorial office Vienna, Muthgasse 2, 1190 Vienna.
