As Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky desperately asks the West for more help in the fight against Russia’s war of aggression, the Kremlin dismisses the demands as “hysteria.” However, current developments speak a completely different language. The situation on the Ukrainian front is bad. Moreover, Russian acts of sabotage in Europe are increasing.
“Several representatives of the Kiev regime, even Zelensky, have made many statements in recent days, sometimes actually ending in hysteria,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Tuesday, according to Russian news agencies. This is due to Ukraine’s poor situation at the front.
Ukraine has been fending off a Russian war of aggression for more than two years. In recent months, Kiev has become increasingly defensive due to a lack of arms supplies from the West. Just over a week ago, Russia launched another ground offensive in the Kharkov region of northeastern Ukraine to overwhelm weakened defense lines. Since the beginning of this year, the Russians have occupied hundreds of square kilometers of Ukrainian territory.
Peskov: American arms supplies can no longer change anything
According to Peskov, even the resumed arms deliveries from the US can no longer change the dynamics of the war. “This understanding is growing, and this obviously does not contribute to the certainty and balance in the statements of the Kiev regime,” he said. Moscow uses the word “regime” derogatorily for the Ukrainian leadership to cast doubt on its legitimacy and to justify its own brutal war of aggression against its neighbor.
According to Prime Minister Donald Tusk, nine people have now been arrested in Poland in connection with suspected acts of sabotage on behalf of Russia. “The acts included bodily harm, arson and attempted arson,” Tusk told private Polish television channel TVN on Tuesday. Lithuania and Latvia and possibly Sweden were also affected by the events, it was said.
