“A bomb will go off in five minutes” – for the second time in just a few days, a bomb threat keeps the police in Linz on edge. This time the executive branch is hit twice. Because the threat was mainly aimed at the police command of the city of Linz. The high-rise building was evacuated.
The call was received at the Linz police headquarters at 11:20 am. The caller spoke with a Dutch accent and threatened that the bomb in the high-rise on Nietzschestrasse would go off in five minutes.
“Expulsion went smoothly”
The twelve-storey building, which in addition to the city police headquarters also houses the Cobra, several departments of the State Criminal Investigation Department and the Counter-Terrorism Bureau, was immediately evacuated. “This cannot be done in five minutes, but everyone has been removed from the building. The evacuation went smoothly,” said the director.
Threat exactly a week ago
After a search, the warrant was issued and about 200 employees returned to their offices. The investigation is carried out by the National Criminal Investigation Department. “If the threatener is discovered, he will have to pay the operational costs, which amount to tens of thousands of euros,” a police spokesperson explains.
Just like a week ago, when a caller threatened that a bomb would explode in the academic high school in the center of Linz. At that point the all-clear was given, but the caller had not yet been identified.
