Two Mercedes – a sports car and a van – were wrecked in a head-on accident in Dietach. The accident ended very differently for the two drivers. While one was left virtually unscathed, the other now has to fight for his life.
The 44-year-old from St. Marien was driving his Mercedes SLK 200 in Dietach on Thursday afternoon when he went too far to the left in a slight right bend. Just then a minibus arrived, a Mercedes Vito, with a 28-year-old from Haidershofen (Lower Austria) behind the wheel. The driver of the van wanted to turn right onto the adjacent shoulder, but the maneuver came too late.
Stuck in the sports car
The driver of the sports car collided head-on with the front of the minivan. The slightly injured 28-year-old – who escaped with bruises – was able to free himself despite the vehicle’s doors no longer opening. However, the seriously injured 44-year-old was trapped and had to be rescued from his vehicle by the fire brigade. After receiving emergency medical care, he was taken to the Pyhrn-Eisenwurzen Klinikum Steyr. His condition is considered critical.
