A tragedy has occurred on the popular Spanish holiday island of Mallorca. According to media reports, several people were killed in a house collapse. The two-storey building housed the popular “Medusa Beach Club”.
The drama on the Spanish island took place on Thursday evening around 8 p.m. at Balneario 1. Heavy parts of the building reportedly fell directly onto the terrace of the restaurant, reports the German ‘Bild’. The fire brigade suspects that several people are buried under the rubble.
There are a large number of police and rescue workers on site. Authorities have also established a large exclusion zone. An eyewitness reported to the “Mallorca Zeitung” that the top floor of the establishment had collapsed. The building then gradually collapsed.
People receive emergency care on site
Videos on social media show the large-scale operation. People sometimes get emergency help on the sidewalks – and large crowds formed. Local media reported at least four deaths and 27 injuries.
There is a risk that the structure of adjacent buildings will also be affected and will have to be evacuated. Because of the darkness, rescuers set up spotlights to search for buried victims.
