There are several reasons why a mother may not want or cannot breastfeed her child after birth. According to the domestic survey ‘SUKIE’, only 55 percent of Austrian infants are fed exclusively from the breast after the first week of life. And if a baby does not get enough breast milk, so-called infant formula, also called pre-food, must be used.
